If you are looking for something different, have a look at a Scenic Rim road trip. There is soo much to discover and a beautiful place to visit is Lake Moogerah.
The drive from Brisbane is only just over an hour (1hr 20min) and you can spend as little or as long as you like there. There are options for boating, camping, hiking and barbecues. So no matter what you are into there is something for everyone. The natural beauty is breathtaking and something you really need to see.
We stopped in after our Granite Belt trip as it was on the way home. The kids had a play at the park before we ventured down to the Dam wall. You can walk all the way out when it's open and look down on the huge 38m high concrete arch wall. We saw some pelicans and my son swears he saw some fish. We then ducked into the beautiful dam café. It was laced with passionfruit vines and beautiful bird life. The tables were so inviting and cozy too. I ordered my usual avocado smash which was a very fair size and we had strawberry shakes. I give props because they had oat milk AND high chairs which doesn't always happen!
The staff were soo lovely and it was a really enjoyable lunch.
I believe you are able to swim in some parts of the lake and with a license you can fish as well. There are covered tables and chairs, toilets and lots of grassy open areas so this is a lovely spot for a picnic or family event in front of a spectacular backdrop.
There is a hiking trail up Mt Edward you can also explore but we didn't get to do that this time.
I first discovered Lake Moogerah on a QLD travel show and I am so glad we finally got around to checking it out! Do yourself a favor and head out there when you can. We will be returning for some camping very soon!
