Gympie has some wonderful parks and rest stops for families such as Lake Alford, which is an excellent choice if you need to stop and stretch your legs. You can walk around the lake, have a picnic, play and the kids can get their wildlife fix with an abundance of birdlife including lots of ducks! We saw lots of ducklings swimming with their mummy and before we left they were walking around the grass, much to the delight of our toddlers. The facilities are great with toilets, BBQ's, and plenty of space to run around.

You will find plenty of parking which is handy when you are tugging a caravan and there is also a gold mining museum with a café. We only stopped for picnic and stretch but I believe there is also a playground in this park as well as an information center if you are staying in the area longer and want to do some exploring. This is a wonderful place for families to unwind.
